The tournament is sevens style rugby based on World Rugby Laws
Some tournament specific laws will be determined based on fields and schedule. These will be released prior to the tournament.
Costumes
Costumes are encouraged, in fact preferred. Be it tutus, full wedding gowns, blue man group body paint, The green Canucks guys, sumo suits: the only rule is there are no rules!
Actually there are a few rules:
- The Men's and Women's Premier and U18 divisions must wear proper rugby shorts and jerseys. Costumes are only for the Social Division on the pitch. Everyone is free to wear costumes when not playing.
- Safety is of primary concern. Anything hard or sharp that could cause an injury to any player is not allowed. This includes but is not limited to buckles, large zippers, cages, knives, throwing stars, etc.
- The match referee has the final say on a costume if it is deemed not safe.
- Any disputes about a costume interfering in play or causing missed tackles will not be tolerated. It's a social division, not the World Cup…
House Rules
- The legal drinking age will be enforced, proper identification must be produced upon demand.
- Absolutely no outside alcohol will be permitted on the premises.
- Drinking is only allowed in the clubhouse, deck and designated areas around the fields. Absolutely no drinking is permitted in front of the clubhouse in the parking lot.
- No cleats inside the clubhouse.
- Dressing rooms are available to teams during the day, however doors will not be locked nor monitored. Neither the George Street Festival Sevens nor the Swilers Rugby Football Club are responsible for lost or stolen items.
